Our History

Kappa Tau Epsilon is a regional sorority here at the University of Charleston. It was formed in the spring of 1990, but our bond of sisterhood began long before. We preserve traditions and are continually striving for excellence.

KTE was formerly known as the Order of Diana, the little sister organization of Tau Kappa Epsilon. In the fall of 1989, the Order of Diana became and individual organization. With the help of the girls at Shepherd College who were in the same situation and from the brothers of TKE, we began Kappa Tau Epsilon.

The original constitution was drafted in the Spring of 1990 and the Order of Diana members took the oath of Kappa Tau Epsilon. The University officially recognized KTE as a sorority and invited us to join Greek Council.

The Purpose of Kappa Tau Epsilon

"As an Independant Organization for women at the University of Charleston our goals are to encourage sisterhood for all members, to provide social activities for membership, and to facilitate student leadership and resposibility through everyday sorority business. Additionally, members of our organization will strive to develop good citizenship, to foster good campus relations, and to aid in philithropic endeavors that come our way."

The Kappa Tau Epsilon Creed

"I believe in Kappa Tau Epsilon. I believe that my sorority letters are not just on my shirt, but are my hearts fulfillment and a way of life.

I believe that out vow to faithfullness, devotion, courage, honor and unity express the true spirit of sorority and that by living these vows my life will be enriched by true friendships and by unselfish service to mankind.

I believe that the priviledge in memebership of Kappa Tau Epsilon brings responsibilty to do my best in whatever I undertake thus bring true to womanhood and myself.

I believe in striving toward good citizenship, philanthropic endeavors as well as maintaining unity and loyalty to our chapter, our school, and our entire community.

I believe that out given word is binding, to practice day by day, love, honor, and respect, thus keeping true to the meaning, sprirt and reality of Kappa Tau Epsilon."
